Kralendijk - CITRO in Curaçao was approached by SAR Collegues in Bonaire, united in KUREBO ('Kuerpo di Reskate Boneiru' which stands for search and rescue team Bonaire) to support the Bonaire International Sailing Regatta 2010 with a ready to go on-scene SAR Vessel and Crew.

CITRO's Head of Operations Jovino Falbru responded to the call for support and made arrangements to be on-site for 4 days. CITRO SAR Vessel 'AURORA' was dispatched departing from Curaçao with a crew of 5 and positions on board were made available for KUREBO to be part of the Maritime SAR Team. As requested and planned the mv 'AURORA' was navigating Bonaire waters both coastal and at wide open seas to be present and readily available wherever the regatta organizaton deemed necessary.

All of this would not have been possible without the serious safety approach and  response system in place by the organizing body of the Bonaire International Sailing Regatta.

As safety comes first both the organizing committee and KUREBO prepared and executed their plans, in close cooperation with CITRO's Head of Operations and the SAR Crew on the 'Aurora'. It was not the easiest support action as weather systems kept entering and gliding over our beautiful Caribbean Waters, causing widely spread showers, thunderstorms, squalls and last but not least constantly changing winds and sea states.

As per 10 October 2010 the country of the Netherlands Antilles legally will cease to exist due to changes in the constitution.

However, the sea rescue Volunteers on the ABC Islands and SSS Islands will always be and act like families to each other which means... supporting whenever needs be... Especially in Maritime Search And Rescue!
